About The Hunt for 10x

Buying stocks isn’t investing
I did what I was supposed to.
I worked hard. I lived frugally. I saved money.
And, I didn’t leave that money idle in a bank account.
I “invested” it in stocks.
As years passed, the account grew.
One day, I was admiring my stocks.
I was feeling smart because a few were worth several times what I’d paid for them.
But, then, I paused.
“How many years and how many dollars have gone into these stocks?”
I started adding things up.
And, once they were added up, all the hot air got sucked out of my swollen ego.
The account hadn’t grown much more than it would’ve if I’d deposited the money into a high-yield bank account.
What happened?
The stocks were supposed to be worth 2, 3, 4x more a couple years after buying them.
Why did a couple do what they were supposed to, while most did the opposite?
The answer’s simple. I was buying stocks based on whims, tips, and feelings.
I was too busy congratulating myself on how smart I was to see I was acting like a dumbass.
I didn’t understand what it means to invest.
Time for a change
Thanks to that kick in the ass, I’ve realized that hope and speculation aren’t going to get me to where I want to be.
I’ve bought stocks for a lot of reasons:
- A Yahoo Finance article said the company’s going to grow 🚀
- A billionaire investor mentioned the company in an interview 🤑
- A friend recommended it 🔥
- I use one of the company’s products 💡
- Reddit 😩
But, not the one that makes a good investment:
- The company’s value is greater than its current price
I want to change that.
